The central character in this book has long saved for 'the afterlife', i.e. retirement. When his wife is diagnosed with cancer this nest egg quickly disappears. The irony of losing one's life's savings, sueing, and thus taking back one's money, is addressed as well as the plight of cancer and doing everything available in our medically advanced society. One 'should' be a soldier, never give up, etc. so that if one decided to stop treatment one may feel like a quitter, a loser, not strong. This b ...more

Oh so dark... sad... and long-winded... I did enjoy it... but it was a bit of work to get through.
