This book was originally published when I was about the same age as my elder son and was one of my favourite books that I read as a child. My old paperback still had the addition of a marbled paper cover. At my secondary school we had to keep our books in good condition by covering them and clearly the habit had spread to some of my other books. Fiver is a rabbit who has visions of the future. He convinces his brother Hazel and a few other rabbits that something bad is going to happen to their warren so they set out to create a new warren. The beginning of the book was a bit slow for me but it picked up when the rabbits start dealing with the Efrafa warren. I liked most of the characters and found myself rooting for the Watership Down rabbits. I didn't like the stories the rabbits told each other for amusement.

Has been on my TBR for years. I finally read it because a group read was planned, and felt it would also help me with my goal of reading books with rabbits or bunnies on the cover as I want to do this for the current lunar new year.

One of the greatest books! I loved it and read it several times while a young pre-teen. I need to read it again. I remember the content being difficult, but I don't remember why.
