Every day I looked forward to settling in with this book before bed. The story chronicles 3 generations of a Tamil Brahmin family making its way in an increasingly modernizing society before India's independence. It was a little bit confusing because there were so many characters and names to remember but I liked the story.

Shelves: open-heartedness
A capitvating look at changing culture and customs in British India. The characters were as compelling as the anthropology -- not an easy task! I loved the vivid details of daily life and cultural practices.
