I read this on the Whitcoull's version of the software for PC's. For other kiwis who might be using it-I think it is clunky, and nowhere near as sophisticated as the Kindle for PC. I kept losing my place, the programme didn't seem to know where I was up to, and it didn't have that nice little thingie that the Kindle for PC has that shows you how far through the book you are. At once both proto-feminist and a clear snapshot of the constraints on women in Cather's time - beautifully written and perfect for a book club discussion. ...more

I thoroughly enjoyed this. It's been a while since I've read a book like this, written in such a distant way, and at first I thought that I wouldn't be able to relate to the characters but instead I found myself throughly engrossed. Couldn't have enjoyed it more! ...more

Another read via my iPhone Serial app. My first Willa Cather book. Started out slow, but picked up and, in the end, I really enjoyed it.
