This one is sort of a takeoff on Daphne de Maurier's Rebecca, with a young woman being courted by an older man whose first wife has died under unspecified circumstances. It is set in the Provence region of France and one gets a good sense of place from the description of the weather and the land. It also touches on the perfume industry and the enigmatic sense of smell. Well worth your time to read this one.

Quick and enjoyable summer read. Found it at my aunt's lake cabin and consumed it in a few lovely days on the deck.

In the beginning of the book, it was a little confusing with the constantly changing narrators but eventually I began to understand the personalities of each. It took at least half the book to finally get to the mystery and by then most of the details were easy to figure out.
Story within a story, lovely setting in Provence, but overly descriptive of places, scents, sounds, etc.
