Written in 1986, this was the first of Nobel Laureate Muller's books to appear in English translation -- and I suppose that's why I picked it up a long time ago. Muller writes from the perspective of the ethnic German minority in Romania, especially under the Ceausescu regime. This slim work is about the inhabitants of a small village, including the town miller, who are seeking passports to emigrate to West Germany.
