Dr. Izzeldin, the author of this book, might not give us new information on how Palestinian live under occupation. It gives us more! He put a spirit to the story that touches whoever read it. He made us questions our conscience about doing something or nothing after knowing the injustices going on in Gaza. He might sound naive in still believing in peace and co-existence after going through such loss. But maybe, we really should do what he is doing. Having a belief that everything happens for a ...more

The author of this book has an amazing story. He grew up in a refugee camp in the Gaza Strip and against all odds and eventually graduates from medical school. He then works at a hospital in Israel, while continuing to live in Gaza and go through the checkpoints regularly. He loses his wife to leukemia and just over a month later three of his daughters and his niece are killed when Israeli tanks target their home. Memoirs of a Doctor in Gaza who surmounted incredible obstacles to obtain an education, went through extreme personal and family loss and pain while dedicating his life to helping others and promoting peace in the Middle East.

Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish is a man who we all should look up to. Despite the horrific and devastating loss of his daughters, he chooses not to hate. This story will shatter your heart and soul and put it back together again.
