What Members Thought
Surprisingly raunchy AND (at the end) creepy, but nonetheless compelling with interesting and occasionally complex characters. Actually, the characters and the plot were not particularly amazing, but the writing was good and I found myself quite drawn in, eager to read what stupid mistake the heroine would make next. In a way, the heroine of this book is the same heroine of all this author's books (that I've read), only the circumstances have changed.

I could have lived with the excessively ambitious and thoroughly unlikeable protagonist if the last 200 pages hadn't devolved into an oddly placed polemic against capitalism and industrialization. Just plain weird, and it's pretty much put me off Gregory.

Usually love this author, but not this one... so far-fetched and ridiculous. I skimmed the last half of the book in hoping that the MC (who I hated) got what she deserved. Don't waste your time with this one.
