The main characters and their romance in this story are rather bland, but the side characters (Felix Hethersett, Dysart and his crony) shine in the comedic closing scenes of the book. Not the best of Heyer's, largely because the plot hinges on all of the characters being too dim for words. It's almost as if she tried to interpolate her mystery theme of everyone being slightly repugnant onto a romance; you can probably guess how successful (or not) that was.
