John Madden is quite an interesting character. Just enough baggage to make him human but not so much that one wonders how he can put one foot in front of another without falling down.

et in the 1920s but written very much as a modern day thriller, seeing the story from both the point of view of the police and of the villain. A very good read, not only because it's an excellent thriller and intricate plot but also for the historical detail of police work in the 1920s. I loved it. ...more
