This series officially counts as a guilty pleasure. I really look forward to another lighthearted romp through a 1920's/30's style murder and mayhem high-society style with Georgie and Co.
This book whisks us away to Nice in the winter of 1933, at HRH Queen Mary's behest. (I won't say why it'll spoil the plot). After a lackluster last book, I was really pleased to see a return to form in the fifth book of the "Her Royal Spyness Mysteries". I found especially that Bowen did a better job utilizing secondary characters on this one--by which I mean they were used scarcely and without too much shoehorning in just for the sake of having them in the book. Better than the last installment in this series. It started out a bit formulatic and I felt myself groan. But it quickly picked up steam.
again, really loved this charming tale. Darcy is still my current literary crush, but why-oh-why is he never actually IN the book anymore?
I adore this series, and Georgie's adventures are always a blast. I especially like the twists and turns in this one, and Bowen's setting herself up to write some truly hair-raising adventures for her heroine as the world stumbles towards war.
