yeah. I need to sit on this one for awhile. Stephen King really cuts to the core of me. And scares the Bejesus out of me.

Yet another example of a book that was totally overshadowed by the masterful film version. Stephen King falls into Stephen King trappings even in this early novel: he weaves complex and believable characterizations, he builds terror and suspense, and then...whoops, he blows his load three quarters of the way through the book. Instead of a climax of terror, we get a burned up hotel and an explosion to boot.

Thank goodness we have (had) directors like Kubrick to fully realize what the original auth

I really liked this genre when I was younger. Not so much now. Too tense. I think I prefer to relax and enjoy my reading more, now.
