This book probably has some meaning or some kind of reason for existence, but I cannot see find any of them. I find it puzzling, confusing, full of sexually explicit parts. The only kind of learning I can take from this novel is that Henry Miller thinks the world is a crazy place in the verge of self destruction. Although I do not necessarily subscribe to this assumption, I can understand that starting from this belief one can write a book like Tropic of Capricorn.

Henry Miller is an author who consistently and continually stretches my conceptions of literature and humanity. He launches from the profane and the degradation into the mystical and life-affirming. It is a journey I enjoy every time I take it with him.
