The writing was compelling but this book is SO DEPRESSING. Trigger warnings all over the place. And I absolutely hated Olive and was so irritated by her never realizing the painful impact of her words and actions on others.

A beautifully written book about the most miserable, dreary people I've ever come across. What an interesting character is Olive! The others characters in her story and her town are as interesting. I am not always a fan of the short-stories-connected-to-a-character/theme format, but I found that I enjoyed reading this one. At the end, though, I found myself wanting to know what happened next to Olive and her acquaintances.
