So far so good.. engaging, entertaining, and well paced/written.

I've finished! This was a delightful read. Interesting premise, well set up conflicts, characters are well drawn, well paced writing that pulls you through the narrative. It does end somewhat abruptly but gives a nice teaser lead in to novel #2. This seems to be standard for this type of young adult novel in recent years. [the ending abruptly rather than winding up the story so it could - if needed -- stand alone. I suspect the pub

I really enjoyed Ruby Red (which is an Addicted to YA January 2014 Book of the Month). For current young adult fiction, it seems to feel different. This could be because it was originally written in German. Regardless, it lacks that sweaty, gritty sheen of many American YA reads and feels almost...wholesome? If one can be wholesome while running swords through people...

Time-travel, ghosts, period costumes, and lots of Googling...with British accents translated from German, woo!

From the NPR poll of best Young Adult fiction.

This was really good (and, no lie, I've got the next two in the series on hold at my library already), but it was not the FANTASTIC book that some reviews on here led me to expect. It was just ... good. In fact, it was borderline fluffy cotton candy.

Unexpectedly enjoyable, this is the first book of the Ruby Red Trilogy. Telling a story about a secret society consisted of people who can travel through time, this book is pretty good- considering I'm not too keen on YA fantasy series nowadays. The dialogues are laugh out loud funny, the characters are likable, and the setting is pretty convincing. The translation is not really good, though, there are some errors that are pretty annoying. But I still enjoy it nonetheless. Let's see if this feel ...more
