I don't know what's in the Scottish water, but it seems like all the fiction I've read from there is messed up (in a good way). This particular book is another in line, as a glance at the Library of Congress Cataloging data for this book shows: "Fathers and sons-- Scotland-- Fiction, Serial murders-- Scotland-- Fiction, Teenage boys-- Scotland-- Fiction, Psychopaths- -Scotland-- Fiction, Murders-- Scotland-- Fiction." I have never cared about a character less than Frank, the main character of this novel. this was just not my cup of tea. I'm moving on...

Truly worth the designation horror.
Couldn't tear my eyes away, but the ending, I felt, was a bit abrupt and heavy-handed - made all the symbolism in the book (especially with regard to (view spoiler)) a bit more obvious than it needed to be. Still, this is a good first experience with Banks, funny while being macabre, and I plan to read more of both 'Iain Banks' and 'Iain M. Banks'.
