I read this and wrote a review. Must not have saved. Classic Furst spotlighting little known areas of WW 2. I'll try and recreate it later. ...more

Set in pre-WWII Europe, you get a taste of the suspicion between neighbors, co-workers, and friends. Everyone is listening, and may be reporting you to someone else. The main character is a journalist who works for Reuters and lives in Paris. He left Italy because of the fascist dictator, Mussolini; and now is involved in publishing an underground newspaper. This certainly gave me a new respect for anyone who resisted during those times

A slightly lighter tone adds pace to the story, a tale that gets you thinking about how being right only matters if you survive to tell the truth.

Took me a while to get going. I guess this is not my favorite genre. But overall a decent read.
