Apparently it took me six years after learning of Clarice Lispector to reach her. The stories in this collection are so precisely told, they are not written like her novels, I was only able to read one or two a day because they would leave me indented, and I would need time to think. I am so relieved to find characters like hers who agonize over their existence in the afternoons, who worry, who seem to want to live/survive, like in "The Chicken", "The Imitation of the Rose", "Happy Birthday", "P ...more
