Finally read this book--it's been on my to-read list forever. Despite my massive anticipation, it completely lived up to my expectations. I had already read Larson's In the Garden of Beasts, which I found very interesting but also frustrating--Larson's narrative technique can leave the reader hanging as he shifts from character to character. Very good, story was amazing and surprising. It seems as though people look back to the old days as the "good old days", yet evil people have been murdering and mutilating always. The ease with which the protagonist works the system and provincials is amazing, and that anyone was ever caught and prosecuted in this era is a miracle.
