Another very excellent, thoroughly-engaging historical book by Erik Larson. He weaves an incredible story--based on gobs of research--that intertwines the development of the 1893 Chicago World's Fair (in honor of Columbus' 400th discovery of America) and that of one of America's first serial killers. Can't wait to read another of Larson's books--I have "Isaac's Storm" on my iPad, the story of a killer Gulf hurricane that devastated Galveston, TX. ...more

Very interesting book - the history and setting of the book was actually more interesting than the crime.

How could this happen -- the murder and madness go undiscovered for such a long time. But it was inspiring to see the pride with which Chicago and the United States geared up for the fair.
