One of the best titles around, and apparently a real boost to the tourism trade of Savannah. Having read the book, I have joined the numbers who want to hop on a plane and go there to see the place for themselves.
This is a book about a murder, and the ripples that event caused to the people and the place. That it is true only adds to the strangeness of the story, and as time passes the author has to write himself into the story because he becomes part of it.

2.5 stars really. This book wasn't quite what I had expected (I haven't seen the movie). I kept putting the book down, not really sure what I thought of it. The writing is fine, and the characters interesting in sort of a cursory way, but I didn't like any of them. Can I say that I was bored by it. I am not really sure why I didn't love it.

I expected this book to be much more of a true crime book than it actually is. The first half of the book chronicles the authors decision to live part time in Savannah, Georgia and he tells tales about the eccentric people he meets. I'm really not interested in stories like this so I found the first half of the book to be pretty boring and I kept getting all the eccentric characters mixed up. Was the narrator never named? I enjoyed reading the story and meeting all the varied characters. I'd give it 3.5-4 stars.
