I enjoyed this book. It has that fairy tale feel at times, and it just softly sweeps you away. I'd have liked to have seen more development with Cassandra, to see what happened to her - maybe the author's planning a sequel. My first Morton and won't be my last. Her writing is at times very beautiful.

The Forgotten Garden
Kate Morton
Not quite a mystery, a saga, a love story, or historical fiction. This novel by australian writer Kate Morton, departs from 1913, and intercalates narratives dated 1975 and 2005. It tells the story of a 4 year old girl abandoned in a ship en route to Australia, who was rescued and raised by the dock-master, who named her Nell. Not a good choice for an audio read. The book takes place in 1905, 1975 and 2005. Each chapter provides clues to a mystery which happened in 1905 and is not entirely resolved until 2005. There are an enormous number of characters and many times I wished I could return to a previous chapter and reread something. The book keeps jumping between time periods and each chapter reveals another clue. The audio version makes it hard to reread parts.
