I'd really like to give this book three-and-a-half stars if possible! I did enjoy it but took a while to get into it - I wasn't too keen on the beginning, but became hooked about halfway through.

There are a lot of similarities with her other book, 'Garden Spells' - again it is a story with elements of magic realism, where the magic seems benevolent and determined to help people, but this time there are also some darker moments and it isn't pure escapism. Exactly what I was looking for this weekend: a quick romance with some quirky characters and the Southern twist that comes with Sarah Addison Allen. Sometimes you figure out the story early, but the telling of it can still be a magic journey. I enjoyed spending time with these lovely ladies over the last 48 hours.

A lightly written story of small town America. Touches of magic like a woman who has books appear to her out of nowhere and a family who can never break a promise. A heartwarming tales of womanly support.

With a surprising ending, it was the second book written by Sara Addison Allen. I enjoyed it.

An idea that was better as an idea than in execution. Also, super saccharine.

Really charming story from Sarah Addison Allen. I've enjoyed all that I've read by her and this was no different. Josie's life is turned upside down when she discovers Della Lee has decided to take up residence in her closet. There's wonderful growth in the characters, a great mixing of stories, and a touch of magic. (I loved Chloe's "book problem.") All in all, a very fun book! ...more

I adore the concept of apropos books popping up when you need them (and their avoiding water!), but overall this one's as fluffy as Josey's marshmallow candies. Definitely one for when you're not in a mood to think too hard or ponder over plot twists too heavily. ...more
