I read this book for a book club discussion, and we all agreed that we are so thankful that we did not live in this time period and in this class in society! The book was a very good slice-of-life portrait of the wealthy in New York City in the 1870's, and as such was a good book. Of course, I kept finding myself talking to the characters and telling them what to do that would make their lives so much better --- but for some reason they didn't listen - lol!

This book is hilarious, but full of excessive details even though that's the point. That ending, though...maddening.
