I'd figured the movie had expanded particularly well what couldn't have been the most indepth of stories, seeing as I'd seen this book read out loud to a lot of elementary school kids. I read this in my 5th grade english class and it was one of my favorite books. It made me cry, which books very rarely do. A sweet story of friendship and imagination, it's definitely a tearjerker. I remember it addressing some pretty heady social issues at the time too, such as child abuse and bullying. I would love to read this again as an adult. ...more
