Thought about using this for school but there is too much slang to make it easily understood. Still made me cry all these years later!

I remember not liking this book at all. Required reading one year, I believe in elementary school.

I read this in my 5th grade english class and it was one of my favorite books. It made me cry, which books very rarely do. A sweet story of friendship and imagination, it's definitely a tearjerker. I remember it addressing some pretty heady social issues at the time too, such as child abuse and bullying. I would love to read this again as an adult. ...more
