Recommended to me by my husband, whose comment upon hearing that I'd never read it was "I can't believe you've never read it. It was probably the only book I had to read for school that I actually read and actually liked." And he's right - it really is a beautiful piece of literature, steeped so deeply in time and place but with something so timeless to say about what it means to be human and to live in society.
