Dark and atmospheric, just like I like them. I read this first before #1 in the series. The lead character, Rebekah Martinson is quite damaged. She pays attention to no one but herself, trying to get back her balance from something horrific which I have not read yet. Spiky, edgy, her responses are unexpected. Keeps you on your toes. I'm going to read the first one. The Series on Acorn changed a lot of things, diminishing some of the power of the book. Isn't that always the way? ...more

Proof positive that strong characters and beautifully crafted language can lift a simple, stripped-down plot to new heights. Smart and cool, it leaves you in anticipation of the next adventure.
