I was reminded that I read this book a long time ago and wanted to give it a rating. I enjoyed it, and I really enjoyed it because of how Anne Rice demonstrates that immortality may not be such a good thing. The fact that she wrote this in the aftermath of her daughter's death while in a state of grief makes it all the deeper, especially when you consider the imagery of the little girl always yearning for light (or to see the world by day) or how Louis observes his mother and sister, from a safe

This book just didn't hold my interest, I kept thinking that the main character was too effeminate--in the sense that I felt he really was a bit too sympathetic for my taste. I've never seen the movie either, and I'm pretty sure I won't be wasting my time with this story again...or any of the rest of this series; interestingly enough, I do like several of Rice's other books.

I don't really like vampires and this book did nothing to change my mind on that score, but I learned a bit about their life style and behavior that might come in handy doing a crossword puzzle or something. Even if they existed and I had a chance to adopt their life style I think I'd reject it.
