What Members Thought

I thought this was immensely interesting, largely because of the amount of blood and gore (making deathcasts out of severed heads!) in it. I love learning about the French Revolution - a sick fascination that began with my reading of the abridged version of A Tale of Two Cities. I think I learned about the guillotine then.

Madame Tussaud definitely was well-written. I liked the book, even though it took me longer to finish than expected. I really enjoyed learning the details such as the art of waxwork modeling, Marie's life (which I never really thought about before), and the progression of the Reign of Terror.
The only issue I had with the book was that I felt that the main character, Marie, was sometimes pushed aside in the retelling of the French Revolution.
This book is a 3.5 stars for me.

This book was great! Not only is it very well written, but also it offers a very unique perspective on The French Revolution. Marie was friends with many of the key players of the revolution, as well as being a friend to Lady Elizabeth, sister of Louis XVI. It is a bit graphic in places, but not overly so. So if you have any interest in the French Revolution or french history in general, definitely read this book!
