Definitely a unique read considering it is written from the perspective of a dog. I was immediately drawn in by the matter of fact yet pondering narrative of Mr. Bones. Nevertheless, I began to feel like I was reading a young adult novel after a while as the dog tromps around making new friends and foes. At times the book was overly sentimental although there were moments when I found my heart strings effectively plucked. The ramblings of Mr. Bones' master were also somewhat tedious. This is another book told from the POV of the dog. In this case, Mr. Bones is the dog of an aging poet in New York. The poet knows he will die soon and wants to provide for his steady companion so he takes him to Baltimore in hopes of finding a former teacher named Miss Swanson. He doesn't exactly succeed but Mr. Bones is very resourceful and finds means of survival. A seet story and Mr. Bones has some insights that might be of some use to many humans. ...more
