While this one is centered around a truly diabolical crime (and as such, is wildly implausible), Adler-Olsen does a really nice job of highlighting one of my favorite aspects in straight police procedurals - actual investigation. His hero isn't some kind of super-genius but instead the sort of person that keeps shaking trees until something useful drops, which seems a much more accurate picture of how detectives solve crimes in real life.

Enjoyed this first book in a Danish crime series, but it wasn't all that different from other Scandinavian crime novels.
