My last Bernie Gunther novel. The book for well over half the novel followed two tracks. Argentina, 1950, and Berlin, 1932. Bernie, being former SS, is sort of on the run along with real Nazis who are definitely on the run. Destination: Buenos Aires. Evidently Kerr built much of the novel around a book regarding the escaping Nazis. Cool, Boys of Brazil, Marathon Man, I'm listening. The Argentine interest in fascism, embodied in President Peron and his rock star wife, Evita, is pretty well done, ...more

One of the strongest series going right now - Kerr continues to impress with his ability to weave together historical fact with his imperfect-but-appealing protagonist. Best of all, he sheds much-needed light on the fact that the fallout from Nazism wasn't even close to over at VE Day. ...more
