Greg Mortenson was mountain climbing when he got lost, found, then lost again until he tumbled into the village of Korphe in Karakoram Mountains (in Pakistan near border with China). Greg stays in Korphe to recuperate and gains a deep admiration for the villagers who are willing to give when they have so little. The review from “Bookmarks magazine” quoted on the Amazon web site sums it up perfectly: “Three Cups of Tea should be read for its inspirational value rather than for its literary merit”.
The book is quite poorly written, a little too much uncritical hagiography and public relations. Morentson is a saint, that kind of thing. Surprisingly, it’s even a little condescending to its middle eastern subjects; wow, the Pakistani’s can keep accounting records how incredible!
