This was another epic tale from this author. I loved Tigana, and was hoping I'd love this one just as much, but not quiet. This was still great storytelling, but the story progressed slower than I liked and found myself wanting to move things along. Still enjoyable read. ...more

I liked this story, really I did. Guy Gavriel Kay continues his obsession with the word "shape". According to google books:
shape: 40 occurrences
shapes: 23 occurrences
shaped: 19 occurrences
shaping: 16 occurrences
For a total of 98 occurrences of "shape" variations in the novel.
Here's a typical example:
"It is difficult, even in the imagination, to shape a sufficiently crushing reply."
The author needs to consult a thesaurus!!!! ...more
