This was one of the hardest books I’ve ever read that I finished!

From sentence to sentence, it’s quite enjoyable, but for some reason, it was hard for the stories and characters to connect. The book really is based on conversations and interactions and not really plot driven. The conversations are rich, but there’s not a lot of momentum pulling you through the story.

Or is so clever and interesting but lacks an emotional resonance or like unearthed truth about human nature I’ve come to expect from contemporary literature. I reallt want to read the next ones. Like a beach read for really smart people. It just in sorry doesn’t compare to say ‘a brief history of seven killings’ or ‘people in the trees’ but it is really delicious in other ways just not deep enough.

While I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I really need to reread it and pay more attention to the relationships. I am not well versed in English history and even Henry VIII and Cromwell are not yet good friends of mine. This is what the reading challenge is good for.
