เกือบๆ 4.5 - เรื่องเริ่มหลังจากห้าปีของเล่มแรกไปจนถึงปี 1927 หลังจากเหตุการณ์เสียชีวิตของฟาร์มี ส่งผลกระทบทางจิตใจของคนในบ้าน โดยเฉพาะกับคะมาล เรื่องของยาซีนก็ยังคงเป็นลูปเดิมๆ หรือปัญหาของคอดียะห์กับแม่ผัวที่ทะเลาะกันบ่อยๆ
จริงๆชอบฉากหลังการเมืองที่มีการประท้วงในเล่มแรกมากกว่า พอเล่มนี้เหตุการณ์เริ่มสงบลงบ้าง มีการพูดถึงก็แค่ผ่านทางคะมาลกับเพื่อนเศรษฐีของเขา (ต้องโน้ตเรื่องการเมือง Saad Zaghloul กับพรรค Wafd และนายกกับกษัตริย์ช่วงนั้นไว้) ชอบความคิดเกี่ยวกับปรัชญาและการเป็นนักคิดของคะมาลมากๆ น่า ...more

I probably didn't read this at the right time- I've been a little distracted- but I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the first book. The book is centered on the youngest son, Kamal, who is a dreamy intellectual in love for the first time. His feelings are so flowery and naive which are a wonderful contrast to the rest of the characters who are far more cynical and earth-bound but after awhile his musings seem to drone on and on.The rest of it was great and I particularly loved the women in this
