This Afghan novella takes place during the Soviet occupation (1979-89), although it could just as easily have taken place during the reign of the Taliban, or during the "War on Terror." It's a sad and moving story about what war inflicts on the powerless, as well as the uneasy relationship between fathers and sons, with explicit references to the tale of Rostam and Sohrab from the Shahnameh (Persian Book of Kings).

For me this was another case of the book not being for me despite the beautiful cover. This book was already out of my comfort zone because we all know that short books are not usually books I like. I mean honestly this book is only 84 pages long and I only read it a few days ago but I don't remember a thing!
