ITs been a long time since I read a book, I mean months! And I started this book several weeks ago and would normally have got through it in a weekend but I've been reluctant to read this book, mostly because of a fear that it would turn into a Nichols Sparks or Anite Shreve type novel. No offence to people who like those authors but I really can't bear them. They upset me.

I could easily eat this book right up - fish heads never sounded so delicious. While the plot is quite spare, the descriptions of the history and theory behind true Chinese cuisine is fascinating stuff. I might have to run out for dim sum this weekend.
The food bits are good. Ginger, cilantro and chives are healing foods for grief. Nice. Otherwise the story is pretty predictable and forced. But not a bad milieu to inhabit for a while.
