(Yet another one of my favorite books which was lacking a review!)
Where to begin... Ah, yes, high school. I chose George Eliot (AKA Mary Ann Evans) for my AP Literature class as my focus author: I read three of her novels, and since Silas Marner is her shortest and I was 17, you better believe it was first on my reading list (Obviously Middlemarch was last).
If you can read Jane Austen or Charles Dickens, you can definitely read George Eliot. She doesn't have Austen's wit nor Dickens' farce, ...more

De George Eliot, scriitoarea britanică care și-a ales ca pseudonim un nume bărbătesc, am citit până acum 3 romane. Am citit prima dată Adam Bede, apoi Moara de pe Floss și acum am ajuns la Silas Marner. Mi-au plăcut toate, însă le-aș putea găsi destule minusuri.

Like most Victorian novels this has a moral tale to tell. If you are good and work hard life will be good to you, if you have no scruples and are deceitful things won't be so easy. I found the 1860s language hard-going but it is pretty short and is a good story with characters you can care about.
