Accessible tales of a scientist's long-term studies of a baboon troop in Kenya. It's a mix of his experiences with the baboons and of his travels around Eastern Africa and encounters/relationships with the people. I liked how Sapolsky structured the book to follow his own development as a scientist and a man--especially his early identification with Benjamin, an adolescent baboon in whom he recognized the same "festering adolescent insecurities" he was just getting to the other side of in his ea ...more

Although the author's experiences entail more than just baboons, this is a fascinating account of a scientist in the wilds of Kenya during the late 1970's. Deservedly earns a spot on the list of antroplogy related tomes. ...more
