I could not get into this book. I was looking for a quick, engaging thriller and I was hoping this would do the trick. I didn't really find the story engaging and didn't like the characters. I was bothered by the portrayal of women in this novel, and specifically the workplace dynamic between women and men. The female characters in the book were often objectified by their male coworkers and other men in their lives and the males were mostly super sleazy. ...more

The seventh book of the series - I feel like I know Harry Hole forever now LOL. For the first time ever, Harry has to deal with a serial killer in his own country. The Snowman feels very personal for Harry, and as usual, he throws himself fully to the case.

Thrillers are not usually my genre of choice, but I will be reading more by this author. Multiple plot twists, tidying up of loose ends, and the kind of pace that makes you want to keep reading till it's finished are the things I look for. And that's all here. It is difficult to figure out the order of this series, but it doesn't seem to matter starting at number 7. ...more

Though Harry Hole is seriously flawed he manages in a backhanded way to solve mysteries. This one has to do with genetically inherited diseases and features a serial murderer who calls himself the Snowman. Though not light and cheery, Nesbo has less gloom and doom than many Scandinavian writers.

This book was scary, but I have to admit that I called it way before the ending. Not everything, though! Definitely fun, and I'll for sure be reading some more Harry Hole exploits. ...more
