Everywhere I went while reading this book, I heard, “You’re reading Great Expectations? I love that book! It’s one of my favorites!” Which led me to have great expectations about it.

I loved the initial part of the story and the last third, however the middle portion seemed to stretch endlessly, like Dickens was being paid by the word (maybe he was since this was initially serialized!) and just dragged on forever, aimlessly. Some of the characters are beyond wonderful (talking about Joe, Biddy and Herbert and even Wemmick), and some are beyond contempt (can you say Miss Havisham, Estella, Jaggers, Mrs. Joe, Orlick, Pumblechook).
