I really fell in love with Michener when I read "Chesapeake," but this book, one of his more recent, lacked everything that I loved about the original. I suppose I expected the storyline to flow along with a few select families, as it did in "Chesapeake," throughout history, but, evidently, the fact that the different islands are different nations with different prevented this for him.
