This is a very strong 4, closer to 4.5 stars. I really enjoyed reading this Hardy novel that I'd never even heard of until finding Katie Lumsden's YouTube channel, "Books and Things" (a link to her channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNBg...). Katie loves Victorian lit., and is so enthusiastic and passionate about it that I've caught the fever too. And I'm really grateful, because Vic lit is such a comfort read for me.

De Thomas Hardy am citit cam tot ce a scris acest autor, iar unele dintre romane le-am citit chiar de 2 ori. Îmi place literatura clasică britanică foarte mult, iar Thomas Hardy (alături de Jane Austen) este autorul meu preferat din această categorie(...)

When I read that “The Woodlanders” was author Thomas Hardy’s personal favourite of his novels I chose this as my second read of Hardy novels. This is properly classified as a tragedy, but it is not at all gloomy and it even ends on a bit of an upbeat note - there is plenty of the comic view of life written into this novel.
