Maybe it is the YA lit reader in me. Maybe it is the Spanish-as-a-second-language speaker in me. Maybe it was my university Spanish lit class. I don't know, but I loved this book. I loved Neftali's learning curve and how he came to see and feel the things he did (not what he had to endure, but his thought process and his growth). I loved the afterward and the insight into the non-fiction which led to this work. I have recommended this to my older girls. As for myself, this has made me want to re

Beautifully written and wonderfully narrated, but I would like to get my hands on a physical copy to also see the illustrations. I couldn’t believe how cruel the father was and I also know I could not be as loving and tender the mother was in the swan scene and that definitely made an impression. Happy to know more about this amazing poet!
