This was apparently Kundera's first novel and I enjoyed his counterpoint narratives, interweaving the lives of his characters. Not knowing much about music, but having read a lot of Kundera, the text was clearly organized like a musical performance, with harmonies, dissonance and chords striking in a beautiful mixture.

The conflict of the individual versus society versus time was extremely compelling and even after putting it down a couple of days ago, I still feel haunted.
