The distracting use of 'you' throughout the 301 pages of the book, the fact that Gemma is neither fully fleshed out nor sympathetic (and the sister she mentions on occasion might as well be non-existent for all the significance she and her boyfriend - whom Gemma seems to carry a torch for - holds), the rather slow pace of the book all combine to make this a rather disappointing/mediocre read.

Haunting. Twisted. Beautiful. It took me a while to decide how I felt about this book. It was beautifully written but horrifying in plot. As an adult, I can see how Gemma feelings were twisted by Ty's mind games. It was horrifying in that I could see it coming but she couldn't. He had complete control over her mind and she could only see the physical imprisonment. My heart ached for her as she was fighting to escape but getting more sucked into his web each day. ...more

a brilliantly DIFFERENT look at a common theme in literature right now. This account of abduction left me with a sick and twisted stomach ache for most of the book (!) now THAT is brilliant writing. The writing probably could have been tightened up, but it lent itself to a 16/17 year old, and the fact that it trasported me to that desert, to her struggles, her compassion.... just wow.
