A young Sikh learns he is dying of a brain tumor and flashes back to his past life as a chef in the Indian army, during the Pakistan/Indian war over Kashmir. The other characters in the book are not well drawn out. Some of the phrases and thoughts are very hard to identify with. Rambling, depressing, boring, had to force myself to finish it.

The writing was beautiful, but I felt as though too many things were briefly attended to. I wonder if reading it again would make me rate it higher.
