I was interested in the premise of the story. The author does an excellent job of setting the scene. Her anthropological deconstructions of the language, culture and way of life of the inhabitants of Rakhat were wonderful to read. While I enjoyed all of those elements, I felt nothing for the characters, they were simply present to keep the story moving.
