I bought a copy of this forever ago, but didn't get around to reading right away. I was working on a dissertation that had to do with Hemingway and I think I was afraid a fictionalized account might blur into my academic sources. But, since I'm done with the dissertation now, I was happy to finally read!

I thought this book was great, but probably best appreciated by Hemingway fans (and yes, you can be a fan and have a love-hate relationship with your subject... or even a hate-hate relationship,

I have always been a huge fan of Hemingway, as well as the many artists that he encountered in his life. This book was about his first wife and him. I really loved the book!! However, it was a little difficult getting through the book about the artist himself and not his work. I am so glad I read it, as it was beautifully written!!!

A very personal look at Hemingway's start and struggles as a young 20 year old in Paris and before his first books. More of a look at love in a relationship with mismatched velocity, it is a story of the pleasure two people can bring to each other and how that might all end.

The Lost Generation is an interesting story in itself, but the soul of this book was a portrait of the artist as a young man.

A very well written fictionalized account of Hemingway's first marriage (to Hadley Richardson). The story is told from Hadley's perspective and in it she has a clear, strong, beautiful voice. I was happy to hear that she finds happiness in her second marriage. After going through everything she went with Hem, it felt like she surely deserved it.
Another aspect of the book that really appealed to me was the description of what life was like for the artsy set in the early 1920's, so many incredibl

I really enjoyed this book. Although I have read Hemingway's books, I knew very little about his wives, and this is a very interesting look at what life with his first wife may have been like. I also did not realize how numerous were Hemingway's connections to other literary greats of the time, like Fitzgerald, Stein, and many others. This is definitely a book for those who are interested in the background of a very famous and larger-than-life author. ...more

This book gave me my worst "Book Hangover" of the year! I just couldn't leave it behind.Even knowing the outcome from the beginning, I still ached for Hadley. ...more
